About

Beth Collyer is our trainer and Happenstance Farm owner who started riding before she could walk, played her first game of Polo at 9, started "breaking" horses at 14 and trained hundreds of horses along with her father Frank Reeves before continuing as a professional on her own.  

Frank was one of the founding members of the Atlanta Polo Club in 1969 which is how Beth got her start as a life-long player and polo professional before opening the "Bentmallet Farms" Hunt-seat lesson program in 2005.

Some of her accomplishments include:
  • Who's Who of American High School Students
  • Principal chair French Horn section Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra
  • Full Music Performance Scholarship to UGA
  • Marched with Spirit of Atlanta Drum & Bugle Corps 1986, 87, 88
  • and with Blue Devils Drum Corps (Concord, CA) 1989
  • Founded the UGA Polo team in 1988
  • Competed with the UGA Equestrian Team, coached by Druanne Paulk Roberts.
  • Worked for UGA training horses
  • Trained under polo professionals Daniel Fernandez (5 goals), Steve "Big Rube" Talbert, invited by Polo Hall of Fame member Tommy Wayman (former 10 goal player, recognized as THE greatest American polo trainer to date) to train horses FOR Mr. Wayman.
  • Managed the polo string for former Coca Cola Enterprizes CEO, Skeeter Johnston during the 22 Goal Silver Cup, 26 Goal Gold Cup and 26 Goal US Open in 1998, invited to remain with Coca Cola full time. 
  • Trained and sold many horses that went on to play in the highest levels of American Polo including the US Open.
  • As a Polo professional:  Trainer, manager, groom, player, umpire, instructor and broker.
  • Began studying Dressage at age 21
  • Worked for JCL Quarter Horses under Roger Sosbee.
  • Trainer to more than 200 Hunt-seat lesson students to date with zero major injuries to any under her direct supervision.
  • Close to 40 of her personal students have competed with several IEA teams, more than 90% reaching post-season.
  • IEA affiliations:  Served as a Coach, Region 6 Chair, Steward, and Horse Provider 
  • Trained with Karen Thomas, Andy Bashkin, Stephanie Free, Hank Bloom and others to continually improve what she has to offer her students.
